WORLD-CLASS PORT IN THE MAKING : GANGAVARAM PORT



  • Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP) with an intention to develop Gangavaram Port under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode had selected the consortium led by Mr. DVS Raju for development and operation of Gangavaram Port. The Port is in operation since 17-04-2009.

  • Conservancy powers vested with the Gangavaram Port Company Limited.
  • The port is developed with the land to an extent of Ac.2,852
  • Gangavaram Port is developed as a most modern, all weather, deepwater, multi-purpose world-class port facility and will offer major tangible benefits to Indian Industry through deeper drafts (21 mts), advanced cargo handling equipment, highly efficient operations, supported by vast storage areas for all types of cargo and extensive ancillary facilities, making it the most important gateway on the East Coast of India.


PHASE I DEVELOPMENT:



  • Five berths (Iron-one 1; Coal-1; Multipurpose-3).
  • Depth in habour 21 m (Deepest amongst any Indian Port).
  • Excellent Rail and Road connectivity to the hinterland.


FUTURE DEVELOPMENT AS PART OF THE MASTER PLAN :



  • Complete harbour plan for 15 berths with 80 MTPA capacity.
  • Master plan provision for 29 berths with 200 MTPA capacity.
  • Provision for developing full-fledged Container Terminals and Container Freight Station


PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND CURRENT STATUS



  • 5 Berths are in operation (Iron ore – 1 Berth, Coal – 1 Berth, Multipurpose Berths – 3 Nos.)
  • Dredge Depth of the channel available is from 14 Mts. to 19.5 Mts.
  • Maximum Vessel capacity 1,80,000 DWT can be handled.
  • All Statutory clearances required for operation of Port facilities have been obtained.
  • Awarded “best Infrastructure Deal of the year – 2005 in Asia Pacific region”.
  • The port handled 13.95 Million Tons, of cargo during the year 2010-11 and it is 13.13 Million Tons during the year 2011-2012 (upto 01/2012)
  • Construction of 4 more berths is proposed under Phase II during the year 2012-13.
