| :: PORTS THAT WERE ALREADY PRIVATISED
| | | | | 1. a). KAKINADA DEEP WATER PORT | | | | This is a naturally protected port because of protection from the Hope Island of 17 KM length. With the ADB loan assistance, 1050 Mts. Island breakwaters, 3 Deep Water Port berths and an approach channel with an initial depth of 10.5 Mts. has been developed in the first phase to handle vessels up to 30.000 DWT with a provision for dredging up to 13 mts. in the second phase to handle ships up to 60,000 DWT. With this a large tranquil basin of about 100 Sq. Km has been created. There is great scope for development and a master Development Plan was prepared for 13 berths, 6 shore connected and 7 off shore berths. This port with 3 Deep Water Berths is being operated from November, 1996. This Port has been privatized and handed over to M/s ISPL (International Sea Ports Pvt. Ltd.) Singapore on OMST (Operate, Manage, Share and Transfer) principles for a period of 20 years. An agreement was entered into on 19-3-1999 and they are operating the Port w.e.f. 1-4-1999 successfully. First right of offer for development of further Port related facilities was given to them. They have dredged the approach channel to 13 Mts. depth to handle vessels up to 60,000 DWT. Further, | | 2. KRISHNAPATNAM PORT | | | | Krishnapatnam Port is situated in Nellore District located at latitude 14 0 15’ North 80 0 and Longitude 81 0 07’ East. The Port is located on the left bank of Upputeru river and well-connected with the National Highways 5 from Howrah to Chennai and also a broad guage railway line at 28 KM distance. Upputeru river is having a depth of 40 ft. This is first green field port privatized by the Government of AP to M/s Krishnapatnam Port Co.Ltd., on 4-1-1997 to develop it into Deep Water Port. The KPCL is expected to complete the construction of first phase Port by June 2008. The Port is expected to serve the power plants which are coming at Krishnapatnam in private sector and iron ore exports from Hospet-Bellary region and other industries in Nellore & Rayalaseema region. | | 3. GANGAVARAM PORT | | | | The Port is located at latitude 17 0 37.05’ North and Longitude 83 0 -14.06’ East and 15 km South of Visakhapatnam. It is adjacent to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Serves the needs of Imports and Exports of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and also of Parwada Industrial Park situated very close to the Gangavaram Port. Connected with Road and Rail linkages. Nearest Airport is Visahapatnam. 20 mtr deep water contour is available with in one km from shore line rendering it economical for handling very large size vessels of more than 250000 DWT ships. Traffic study indicates 25 mil tons by 2008 and 70 mil tons by 2020 for Gangavaram port. Port is privatized to M/s D.V.S.Raju led consortium concession agreement was signed on 7-8-2003. DPR was approved and the first phase Port is expected to be ready by March 2008. |
