                 :: FISHING HARBOURS
 
     A.P. Port Department have taken up 4 (Four) Fishing Harbours along the A.P. Coast as follows:

 

1. Kakinada Fishing Harbour

2. Nizampatnam Fishing Harbour

3. Machilipatnam Fishing Harbour.

4. Bhavanapadu Fishing Harbour.
Out of the above four harbours, Kakinada and Nizampatnam are functioning. Machilipatnam is yet to be kept under function whereas Bhavanapadu is defunct harbour.
1. Kakinada Fishing Harbour:
This fishing harbour was constructed during 1984 and is running successfully.
The harbour was designed for accommodating 250 Nos Fishing Vessels.
Presently all facilities like Water, Power Supply and Fuel Supply are available at the harbour.
Presently harbour is serving more than 500 boats.
Fisheries Department have released Rs. 40 Lakhs towards Hygeinic Maintenance works.
The Works are taken up and will be completed by August, 2005.
2. Nizampatnam Fishing Harbour:
 
Harbour is situated at Nizampatnam in Guntur District.
Harbour is designed to accommodate 120 Nos of Fishing Vessels.
Presently about 250 Nos of Fi9shing Vessels are utilizing the harbour.
All required facilities i.e., Water, Power Supply and Fuel Supply are available.
CICEF Banglore have submitted proposals for the Phase – II development of the Fishing Harbour for Rs. 10 Crores to the Central Government which is under her examination.
Fisheries department has released Rs. 40 Lakhs to take up the Hygeinic Maintenance works. The works are taken up and will be completed by August, 2005.
3. Machilipatnam Fishing Harbour:
 
Project was taken up under Central & State Share 50:50 Basis.
Government of India accorded approval for Rs. 470.88 Lakhs during 1996.
Government of Andhra Pradesh accorded approval for Rs. 640 Lakhs during 1998.
Harbour was designed for accommodating 350 Nos of Mechanised Fishing Vessels.
Projects were divided into 2 Packages, Civil Works and Dredging Works.
Port Department has attended for Civil Works and Completed civil works by 31.03.2003. The expenditure on the Civil Works is Rs. 3.90 Crores.
Irrigation Department has entrusted the Dredging Works. The work was commenced by the Irrigation Department during July, 2003 and work is yet to be completed. So far the estimated amount of Rs. 47.00 Lakhs was deposited to the Irrigation Department.
Harbour was inaugurated by the Fisheries Department during February 2003.
Harbour will be in full function after completion of dredging by Irrigation department and fuel supply and Ice-Plant facilities which are being attended by the Fisheries Department.
4. Bhavanapadu Fishing Harbour:
 
Situated at 70 KM to Srikakulam and 20 KM from Tekkali.
Project taken up under Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
Government of India Accorded approval for Rs. 1.31 Crores during 1978.
Government of Andhra Pradesh accorded approval for Rs. 1.50 Crores during 1980.
Harbour was designed for 200 Nos of 9.80 M long mechanised Fishing Vessels.
Works were grounded from 1983 and Civil Works were completed in 1988.
The Total expenditure incurred about Rs. 3.52 Crores.
The harbour was not functioning due to the sand accumulations in the approach channel and entrance of the channel is partly closed.
Studies have been carried out for the revival of Fishing Harbour by CWPRS, Pune, WAPCO Consultants. But no proposals were finalized.
Trial dredging of the approach channel was taken up during 1999 – 2000 but no successful results were achieved.
Fisheries Department have carried out further studies by Baird Associates, Canada. As the proposals finalized by the Consultants involved huge cost, fisheries has not accepted their proposals during 2004-05.
